From adopting the Mississippian culture to adopting the European culture, from fighting with their nearest neighbors in every war to working alongside those neighbors in times of peace, the Pee Dee have always shown the ability to adapt and survive when many Indian people did not. Today, the Pee Dee still farm their lands, work side by side with non-Indians and serve in the country's defense in any conflict while continuing to govern and care for themselves to the best of their abilities. They have stopped hiding in plain sight and are now fighting for their rights and trying to preserve their environment and lands.
